The Montessori Sound Box consists of two boxes, each containing six cylinders with one red and blue set apiece. Since the material contained inside the boxes is different with each pair, it creates a distinct sound when shaken. Each cylinder in the blue set will have an identical one in the same set to match it. The sounds can be graded from loud to soft and children are required to find the matching pairs by carefully listening to the different sounds made. This helps immensely in refining a child’s auditory sense in a very controlled and exciting way.
